Otter boys’ soccer picks up pair of victories

ARLINGTON — The Otter Valley Union High School boys’ soccer team picked up a home tie and then a pair of recent wins over Springfield, one on Tuesday in the opening round of Arlington’s annual four-team tournament. The 3-4-1 Otters will play host Arlington on Friday night in the final of that event.
On Sept. 21 the Otters and visiting Mill River battled to a 2-2 deadlock. Josh Letourneau tallied both the OV goals, with assists going to Maxwell Williams and Justin Tremblay. One of the MRU goals deflected in off an OV defender. Coach Dick Williams said Reilly Shannon played well for OV, which got a combined seven saves from goalies Nate Claessens and Clay Hays. Mill River keeper Austin MacMurray stopped 15 shots.
On Saturday, OV edged host Springfield, 1-0, as Letourneau converted a Williams assist four minutes into the game. Hays worked a four-save shutout as the Otters improved to 2-4-1 and snapped a five-game winless streak.
On Tuesday, the Otters blanked Springfield again, 2-0, this time in the first round of Arlington’s tournament. Williams scored in the 23rd minute with an assist from Sawyer Heat, and Letourneau added an insurance goal nine minutes after intermission.
