The Addison Independent is proud to publish the Students of the Week from area High Schools each week. The students are chosen by teachers and administration from each school who would like to recognize their exceptional engagement in the high schools they attend.
OVUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Otter Valley Union High School is happy to announce Brigid Elaine Enright as its Student of the Week. Brigid lives in Pittsford with her mom Roberta, and her dad David lives in Miami, Fla.
Brigid is a member of National Honor Society and has been on the Principal’s List throughout high school. Currently, she is ranked first in the senior class. Brigid is President of Student Council, and has been involved since 7th grade. Brigid will have taken six AP classes by the time she graduates from OVUHS: AP Calculus, AP Art History, AP Chemistry, AP Bio, AP European History and AP Literature.
Brigid is a certified nursing assistant with dual licensure in Vermont and New Hampshire. Two days a week, she volunteers at Rutland Regional Medical Center, where she has been a courier for a little over a year.
Brigid has played tennis since 9th grade, and is currently a captain. She is very dedicated to planning blood drives through the school; they host two drives a year. Brigid participates in jazz band, where she plays percussion. She also participates in both district symphonic and jazz band and All-State music festivals. Her favorite instrument to play is either the drum set or any keyboard percussion. She plans on participating in orchestra for the upcoming school musical “The Producers.” This will be her sixth and final musical. Over the summer, Brigid attended a pharmacogenomics and genetic medicine course at UVM, as well as MedQuest in Saxton’s River.
Brigid loves to play percussion and has taken lessons with Rob Zollman at Whole Music Learning in Brandon for almost eight years. She also loves art history, fashion, drawing mandalas and baking for her friends. Above all, Brigid loves to travel — she has been to 14 countries so far!
Brigid’s teacher Ms. Cioffredi says, “Brigid Enright is a multi-talented student and I enjoy having her in a dual enrollment sports medicine class. Although she is a gifted and serious student, she does not take herself seriously and is quick to laugh. Brigid is one of those students that finds the fun in learning and this makes her able to bring the best out in other students in class. … One of her more impressive skills is her ability to work with a variety of students with different abilities in a way that is inclusive.”
After graduating, Brigid plans to attend nursing school where she will specialize in psychiatric nursing. She would absolutely love to attend Northeastern University in Boston (fingers crossed) or UVM. All in all, she wants to make a difference in someone’s life, even if it’s just one person.
 
MAUHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Mount Abraham Union High School is happy to announce Margaret Moody as its Student of the Week. Margaret lives in Monkton with her parents, Amy and Jim Moody.
Margaret has made it onto the high or highest honor roll for each semester of her high school career. As a junior, she was accepted to attend the 2015 summer term of the High Mountain Institute in Leadville, Co. During her time at the High Mountain Institute, she was recognized as an honors level student. Starting her junior year, Margaret challenged herself academically by taking two AP courses. At the end of junior year, she was accepted into the National Honor Society. Currently, she is enrolled in a college level Forest Ecology class through CCV, is taking AP English and is interested in taking another environmental science course through CCV during the second semester.
Margaret has been involved in the following activities/sports during her high school career: Field Hockey: 9th-12th grade; Track and Field: 9th-10th grade; Nordic Ski Club: 10th-12th grade; Monkton Maples 4-H Club: 7th-12th grade; Mount Abraham Environmental Action Group: 9th-12th grade; Mount Abraham Garden Club: 9th-12th grade; National Honor Society: 12th grade; Bristol Elementary Extended Learning Program Volunteer: 11th-12th grade; Community Council Class Representative: 9th grade.
After high school Margaret plans on working in the White Mountains and then attending college in Colorado.
Coach Mary Stetson states, “Margaret is a hard-working, dedicated teammate, who is valued and admired by her peers. She is more than willing to fulfill a role that helps her team excel. She has been a pleasure to coach.”
Art teacher Bruce Babbitt writes, “Margaret Moody’s commitment to craftsmanship is evident in her work. She takes the extra time to do a job right. I’m sure that the care she takes making a ceramics piece or a piece of jewelry is typical of her work in all her classes and activities.”
Melanie Stultz-Backus pens, “Margaret’s self-sufficiency, keen intelligence and physical prowess distinguish her; she dedicates herself to valuing, cherishing and nourishing the natural world. Her way of being is a happy match between the real and the ideal.”
