Learn about apples at Shoreham Historical Society talk

SHOREHAM — The Shoreham Historical Society will host a presentation Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Platt Memorial Library by retired apple grower and former Shoreham Apple Coop member Sanford (Sandy) Witherell, Jr., titled “Shoreham Cooperative Apple Producers Association — Its Rise And Fall.”
The Shoreham Apple Coop, best known by its acronym SCAPA, was founded in 1946 by several growers recognizing their orchards’ increasing productions could be better stored, packed and marketed under one umbrella. By the early 1980s, this cooperative facility and a dedicated broker handled up to 500,000 bushels, mostly McIntosh, from 23 grower members.
Please join us for a short business meeting followed by this program. Light refreshments will be served after the presentation.
