County peace coalition to host ‘Day of Peace’ on Wednesday
MIDDLEBURY — The Addison County Peace Coalition will host a U.N. International Day Of Peace event this Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Champlain Unitarian Universalist Society in Middlebury beginning at 7 p.m.
Among the speakers will be Deborah Felmeth, author of “Syria, Remember Me.” The photos and text in the Waltham resident’s book are gleaned from her 20 years living in Syria. It provides a window into the diverse culture, rich heritage and long history of a country that sadly is much in need of peace right now.
Other speakers will include Senowa Wise-Fox, a racial, climate and labor justice activist and organizer who works closely with Black Lives Matter Vermont among other organizations; Bastiaan Phair, a member of the Model UN Club at Middlebury Union High School; and Rich Hennessey, an advocate of nonviolent action for justice and peace, and a former school psychologist.
Karl Lindholm, emeritus Dean of Advising and American Studies professor at Middlebury College, will be moderator for a question-and-answer session.
Felmeth will also joint with jazz pianist Fred Barnes to provide music and song at the event.
The CVUUS is at the corner of Charles Avenue and Duane Court. Parking is available at Mary Johnson Children’s Center and Middlebury Union High School.
