Tiger and Eagle boys’ soccer teams both net weekend wins
ADDISON COUNTY — In boys’ soccer action late last week, both Middlebury and Mount Abraham broke through for their first wins, both on the road, but Otter Valley and Vergennes came up short away from home.
TIGERS
The Tigers got second-half goals from Camden Simpson andEben Jackson to upend host Colchester, 2-1, on Thursday, in a Division I clash. MUHS goalie Santiago Fernandez backstopped the win with eight saves as the Tigers moved to 1-1. Thomas Colgrove made three stops for the 1-1 Lakers.
EAGLES
The Eagles broke into the win column by topping host Mill River, 4-1, on Thursday. Freshman Silas Burgess struck for two goals and an assist, Jack Willis added two goals and a helper, and Eli Rickner contributed a goal for the Eagles. Goalies Toby Bunch and Ethan Dewitt combined for a save as the Eagles evened their slate at 1-1.
OTTERS
Also on Thursday, host Twin Valley blanked OV, 3-0. Coach Dick Williams said his Otters had some good moments, but ultimately could not penetrate TV’s defense or counter the hosts’ edge in possession. OV goalie Chris Hays made five saves as the Otters dropped to 1-2. The Twin Valley keeper stopped three shots.
COMMODORES
On Friday, host Montpelier improved to 3-0 by blanking the Commodores, 2-0. Omeed Fallahi scored twice for the Solons. VUHS (0-2) will look to break through at home on Saturday vs. Fair Haven.
