OV football opens season by stemming the Tide
BARRE — The Otter Valley Union High School football team opened its defense of the Division III crown by romping past host Spaulding on Friday, 58-8, in a divisional matchup.
The Otters will be looking to move to 2-0 on Saturday, when they visit the Poultney-MSJ cooperative program.
On this past Friday, the Otters scored seven first-half touchdowns. OV back Brent Nickerson romped to five first-half scores, one of them on a pass from quarterback Colby McKay, and McKay also tossed a scoring pass to Tyson Cram. Cram also returned an interception for a score.
OV also made plays on the other side of the ball. Richard Waite forced a fumble on a quarterback sack to set up one Nickerson TD, and Colin Mackie and Payson Williams also picked off passes, all in the first half. OV’s second string played after intermission.
