This year’s city-wide celebration is the 35th

VERGENNES— The Little City will host its 35th annual Vergennes Day on Friday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, Aug. 27.
The event kicks off on Friday evening with the Vergennes Arts Walk from 5-7 p.m. and a street dance on the City Green featuring the music of “The Hitmen” from 7-10 p.m. Vergennes Day, hosted and sponsored by the Addison County Chamber of Commerce and area businesses, is a celebration of city and community and can be enjoyed by all ages. Full details of the event and a schedule of activities are available at www.vergennesday.com.
Activities on Saturday, Aug. 27, take place between 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and culminate at dusk with a lighting of Otter Creek Falls. The day begins with a pancake breakfast at the Vergennes Fire Station from 7-10:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the Little City 5K and 10K races and walk will start in front of the Vergennes Opera House. Join or cheer on several hundred runners and walkers as they race through the streets of Vergennes. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Stevens House on the corner of Main and North Green Streets. More information and online registration is available at www.runvermont.org.

· Noon: Simply Acoustic
· 1:30 p.m.: LC Jazz
City Green is also the site of more than 70 craft and vendor booths offering fine handcrafts, locally made products, food and more. Vermont Fish and Wildlife will host it’s Let’s Go Fishing program where people of all ages can talk and learn about fishing, as well as practice knot tying and casting skills right in the park. There will be horse and wagon rides and face painting for kids. The Vergennes Lions Club will be selling barbequed chicken at noon.
Bixby Library, 258 Main Street, is host to many activities during the day including a book sale; bicycle helmet fitting for kids sponsored by Safe Kids of Addison County (they will be providing and fitting a limited number of helmets for kids); Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will be showing a video about their STEAM Ship program; and the Vergennes Lions Club will demonstrate a vision screening camera. Creative Space Gallery, 214 Main Street, will have a painting demonstration with artist Sean Dye and hands-on art activities for kids.
From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., kids can enjoy games and the ever-popular bubble pit at the Vergennes Fire Department. At 1 p.m., Bixby Library will hold its “Booked for Bikes” drawing at the bandstand, which has been sponsored by the library and Vergennes Rotary Club. Entries are accepted until Aug. 22. At 3:30 p.m., the Vergennes Rotary presents the beloved Rubber Duckie Race — tickets are available at the Rotary booth on the City Green.
