Champ swimmers power to victory

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Champs on Tuesday swamped St. Albans, 301-156, at the Vergennes city pool for their second victory in three Champlain Valley Swim League outings.
Allison Croke led Vergennes by sweeping all four 12-and-under girls’ races.
Three Champ boys won three races each: U-10 swimmer Ethan Croke, U-12 swimmer Carson Hoffman and U-14 swimmer Nathan Viera.
Another four Champs touched the wall first twice each: Will Clark in U-8 boys’ events, Madelyn Giroux in U-10 girls’ events, Leah Croke in U-14 girls’ races, and Jacob Viera in U-18 boys’ competition.
Vergennes took charge early by winning seven of the nine opening medley relays. The Champs swept the U-10 and U-12 relays, and the Champ U-8 boys, U-14 girls and U-18 boys’ teams also won. Vergennes also won six of 10 freestyle relays to close out a warm, sunny evening on East Street.
