Locals play on Vt. teams vs. New Hampshire

ADDISON COUNTY — A number of local athletes played and made an impact for Vermont senior all-star teams against their New Hampshire counterparts this past weekend in annual Twin State games, but could not prevent a Granite State sweep of the contests.
In boys’ lacrosse on Saturday in Hanover, N.H., New Hampshire won a 24-19 shootout. Middlebury attacker Jack Hounchell scored twice for Vermont. Also selected for the Green Mountain team were two more Tigers, midfielder Ali Abdul Sater and long-stick middie Jerry Niemo, and two Mount Abraham players, midfielder Charlie Meyer and goalie Tucker Paradee.
In girls’ lacrosse, also Saturday at Hanover, New Hampshire dominated, 26-9. Tiger Emma Best recorded a goal and an assist, and midfielder Claire Armstrong was also selected to the team.
In the 24th annual Make-A-Wish All-Star Hockey Classic at the University of Vermont’s Gutterson Fieldhouse on Saturday, New Hampshire picked up two one-goal wins.
The New Hampshire girls won the opener 3-2; no local athletes played on that squad. The Granite State boys’ team then edged Vermont, 2-1. Two Tigers were selected to the Vermont team, but did not figure in the scoring, forward Justin Stone and defender Nathan Lalonde.
On Friday evening at Castleton University, New Hampshire field hockey rolled to an 8-1 victory over a team led by MUHS Coach Megan Sears. Two local athletes teamed up for the Vermont score: Tiger Makayla Foster converted a feed from Eagle Danielle Bachand.
Also selected to that squad were Tigers Lauren Bartlett and Tajah Marsden and Otter Valley’s Maia Edmunds.
On Saturday in Concord, N.H., New Hampshire also won both Twin State basketball games; neither Vermont team included local athletes.
