Hoop dance on exhibit at Bixby Library this Friday
VERGENNES — Bixby Library will kick off its participation in the Vergennes Arts Walk this season on Friday, June 24, with art exhibits on all three floors and a special hoop dance performance by Rebeccah Brinton.
Sean Dye’s rich acrylics featuring both Vermont and Southwestern themes make up the main- and second-floor exhibits. Vergennes Union High School alumni Genevieve Cohn and Dustin Dattilio will exhibit in the Otter Creek Book Sale ground floor space.
At 6 p.m. Rebeccah Brinton will perform a brief and exhilarating hoop dance in the main lobby under the dome. The essence of hoop dance is to keep a continuum of movement with one or more hula-hoops. The hoop can spiral, spin, swirl, reverse and isolate on or around the body, in either the vertical or horizontal plane. The dancer may fuse any style of dance and music into the hoop movement, creating a unique and highly visually stimulating art thatcan seem a little bit like magic.
Brinton is a certified yoga teacher as well a hoop dancer. The 6 p.m. performance will last less than 15 minutes, giving those attending plenty of time to visit other Arts Walk venues.
