Farmers, public to give feedback on new ag water rules on Wednesday

BRANDON — The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets is seeking feedback from farmers and other members of the public on the latest update of proposed farm practice rules aimed at cleaning up Lake Champlain.
The agency will hold a public hearing on the Required Agricultural Practices (RAP) Proposed Rule in Brandon this Wednesday, June 22, 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Brandon American Legion, 590 Franklin St.
Additionally, the agency will hold hearings around the state in St. Albans, June 21; South Royalton, June 23; Manchester, June 27; Newport, June 28; and Brattleboro, June 29.
For those who can’t make it to these meetings, the Agency of Agriculture will accept public comments on the RAP Proposed Rule through July 7. Once the public comment period closes, the agency expects to make final revisions to the RAP, file the final proposed rule, submit it for legislative review on Aug. 7, and have the rule to go into effect Oct. 7.
