Bixby’s plant sale is this Saturday

VERGENNES — The Friends of the Bixby Library will hold their annual Plant Sale on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bixby Memorial Library in Vergennes.
Don’t miss the varied selections for the locavore’s delight — farm fresh eggs, spring asparagus, rhubarb and horseradish — and for the grower’s delight — annuals, perennials, vegetables, shrubs, berry bushes, herbs and gently used gardening items and specialty pots. “Friend” is donating the San Marzano gourmet paste tomato plants. Other selections include donations from Paul Sokol of Addison Gardens, Red Wagon Plants, Hallock Hill farm (a k a Kelly Sweeney) and First Seasons Greenhouses. Sokol also returns this year to be the “expert on hand” in the plant department, offering free advice for your perennial pleasure.
The Used Book Sale will be open, offering a special collection of books and magazines on gardening, cooking, backyard wildlife, home decorating and birding. There is also a wide assortment of adult and children’s books of all topics at bargain prices. The selection includes an expanded collection of CD audiobooks. Artwork by Deanna Shapiro and Linda Reynolds is on display and for sale in the Otter Creek Room. As part of this show, pottery by Lois Thompson is on display on the Main Level.
This year, products and displays from Country Home Products have been added. Also for sale will be limited amounts of composted manure from Blue Spruce Farms in Bridport, cedar mulch from Aubuchon in Vergennes and baled hay. Students from Vergennes Union High School will provide assistance in loading these items.
For additional information or to donate items, call 877-6392 or deliver donations to the Bixby Library on Friday, June 3.
