Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for DUI after crash
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited William J. Alexander, 58, of Shoreham for driving under the influence, following a one-vehicle crash on Court Street Extension on May 23. Police said Alexander refused to provide an evidentiary breath sample.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Responded on May 23 to a possible overdose case in the Forbes Circle area and gave the man in question a courtesy ride to Porter Hospital.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a woman authorities deemed to be out of control in the Painter Road area on May 23.
• Received a report that a Munson Road resident’s mailbox had been destroyed on May 23. Police believe the mailbox, which was flattened, was struck by a vehicle.
• Took into protective custody a woman who was acting combative and suicidal in the Route 7 North area on May 24. Police took the woman to Porter Hospital for assistance.
• Calmed a dispute between landscapers and an angry neighbor in the East Main Street neighborhood on May 24.
• Turned over, to a sober party, a drunken Middlebury College student on May 24.
• Assisted Vermont State Police in locating a possibly suicidal male walking on Route 30 on May 24.
• Arrested Christopher J. Shores, 22, of Middlebury for allegedly violating “numerous” conditions of his release, following an investigation on Route 7 North on May 25.
• Responded to a Court Street store on a report of a man panhandling on May 25.
• Helped calm a dispute between some Case Street neighbors after an argument broke out over a small dog fence on May 25.
• Responded to a complaint of a person selling stamps in the Kinney Drugs parking lot off Court Street on May 25.
• Responded to a report of a dog having been locked in a car for an extended period of time in the Porter Hospital parking lot on May 25.
• Fielded a call on May 25 from a mom concerned about her daughter hiking on the Appalachian Trail to New Jersey from Vermont.
• Assisted with “Click It or Ticket” seatbelt use monitoring at the intersection of Court Street and Mary Hogan Drive on May 26.
• Received a report about some forged checks being cashed at a local bank on May 26.
• Investigated a report on May 26 of a woman walking down Lower Plains Road “looking confused.” Police said they found the woman safe at her nearby home.
• Cited Daryn Barsalou, 20, of Bristol for driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Overbrook Drive on May 26. Police said Barsalou refused a breath test.
• Warned the host of a loud Middlebury College-related party at a Weybridge Street home on May 26.
• Cleared out a loud Middlebury College-related party at a Weybridge Street home on May 26. Police said they took the action after receiving a second complaint about the party.
• Responded to a family fight between two children at a Jackson Lane residence on May 27.
• Screened a possible drunken driver in the Bakery Lane area on May 27. The results were still not in as the Addison Independent went to press.
• Warned a student for holding a loud college graduation party at a South Main Street residence on May 28.
• Responded to a disorderly conduct complaint in the Court Street area on May 28. Police arriving at the scene found two of the three men allegedly involved in what a witness called a fight. The two men at the scene were “heavily intoxicated,” according to police, but suffered no apparent injuries. The third alleged combatant had left, and the two other men declined to identify him, according to police.
• Investigated a report of underage drinking at the Gorge swimming area off East Main Street in East Middlebury on May 28.
• Spoke with a North Pleasant Street resident about some men who allegedly swore at him as they walked by his home on May 28.
• Assisted Middlebury College Public Safety with a drunken person on Middlebury College campus on May 28.
• Responded to a reported burglary at a Weybridge Street home on May 29. There were no signs of forced entry into the home, according to authorities. Police confirmed a wallet and other personal items were taken from the home.
• Responded to a reported fight on Bakery Lane on May 29. Police determined the parties were just wrestling for fun.
• Were informed that someone drove away from a Court Street Extension gas station without paying for the gas they pumped on May 29.
• Investigated a report of a dog biting a small child on Middlebury College campus on May 29.
• Received a complaint about a vehicle hitting a mailbox on Ossie Road and then driving off on May 29.
• Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a call in the Seminary Street area on May 29.
• Responded to noise complaints in the Shannon Street and Washington Street neighborhoods on May 29.
• Found a drunken man walking along Route 7 South on May 30. Police turned the man over to his wife.
