Rotary program posts American flags on patriotic holidays

MIDDLEBURY — For the past several years the Middlebury Rotary Club has sponsored a flag raising project to promote patriotism and raise funds for charitable use in the community. The club solicits businesses and residences to pay a small fee and its members then fly American flags on their lawns on five holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, July Fourth, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
The flags, which are placed at sunrise and removed at sunset for storage until the next holiday, make for an impressive sight.
Middlebury Rotary is gearing up for its flag project again with a goal of surpassing last year’s displays throughout the town. Those interested in joining their neighbors in Middlebury are asked to send the annual $50 subscription fee for 2016 to Middlebury Rotary, Box 46, Middlebury, VT 05753.
For further information, call Tim Hollander at 989-3857 or email [email protected] or go online to www.middleburyrotary.org/SitePage/flag-project.
Some of this year’s beneficiaries are HOPE, Charter House Coalition, Elderly Services, Turning Point and Vermont Special Olympics.
