Opinion: Bristol ‘Bioblitz’ scheduled for June 3

Hello from Team Apex, a part of Mount Abraham Union High Schools 8th grade. Right now our main unit is on ecology and the environment. We are focusing mainly on the importance of biodiversity. Biodiversity is important because when you kill off one species in an environment, other species will die as well.
We are going to be hosting a bioblitz for the community to come to and you are invited! A bioblitz is a way of teaching people about a specific ecosystem that we have focused on through games and other educational activities. We will also be trying to collect data on as many species as possible.
We have seven different ecosystems that we are going to be looking closely at and studying. They include: a vernal pool, northern hardwood forest, calcareous red maple-tamarack swamp, mesic maple-ash-hickory-oak forest, hemlock-northern hardwood forest, ponds and marshes.
While teaching you about our ecosystems we will be including you in fun activities that will help you understand more about specific animals and species that we find. Some of the activities that we will be offering are: scavenger hunts, workshops, games, crafts based on the animals and plants found in that ecosystem.
It will be on June 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Watershed Center on Plank Road in Bristol. We will be hosting tours of specific ecosystems. If you are interested in a tour of a specific ecosystem. you should arrive at 10. We encourage you to come because it will be a blast! Hope to see you there.
