Girls’ lax teams secured at least third seed in playoffs with two wins
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team won twice late last week to move into third place in Division I at 10-2, percentage points behind second-place Mount Anthony (11-2).
The Tigers play three times this week as the regular season concludes, hosting South Burlington (7-6) on Tuesday before playing back-to-back road games on Thursday at Rutland (6-7) and Friday at first-place Mount Mansfield (11-2).
Satchel McLaughlin (two goals, assist) and Isabel Rosenberg (two goals) led the attack, and goalie Raven Payne stopped 12 shots. Rice dropped to 11-3 as the Tigers passed the Green Knights in the standings.
On Friday, the Tigers outscored host Essex in the second half, 6-4, to earn a 9-7 victory. Rosenberg paced the attack with four goals, and McLaughlin added a pair. Payne backstopped the win with seven saves, while Hornet goalie Elise Carney made three saves.
