Foxhounds compete in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — The 87th New England Hunts Foxhound Show was held on Sunday, May 1, at The Equestry in New Haven. Local foxhunting club Green Mountain Hounds won numerous awards.
A dog show specifically for active foxhounds, this event brought together more than 65 foxhounds from seven packs throughout the region to compete in divisions for English, American, PennMaryDel and Crossbred foxhounds.
Green Mountain Trina was champion of the Crossbred Hound Division and went on to be Reserve Champion, Best in Show.
Green Mountain Hounds also won ribbons in the following classes:
• American Couple Females (female hounds shown as a pair): Green Mountain Krafty and Cee Cee, first place.
• All Breeds Neutered Dog: Green Mountain Truman, first place; Green Mountain Ethan, second place; and Green Mountain Blazer, fourth place
• Crossbred Female: Green Mountain Trina, first place; and Green Mountain Ecco, fourth place.
• Retired Foxhound: Green Mountain Duke, first place.
The Junior Showmanship division, as its name suggests, judged the performance of children showing hounds. The two top Junior Handler divisions were both won by Green Mountain Hounds members: Emma Welch of Bridport won the age 7-11 division showing Green Mountain Eve; and Bryson Knight of Bristol won the age 12-17 division showing Green Mountain Blazer. Knight also was awarded the Beckham Bowl for Junior Handler Sportsmanship for the second year in a row.
