Weybridge eyed for natural gas service; meeting Tuesday

WEYBRIDGE — The Weybridge selectboard this Tuesday, May 17, will hold a public meeting to seek residents’ feedback on a Vermont Gas plan to provide natural gas to residents living on portions of a half-dozen roads in town.
Vermont Gas is in the process of planning — and in some areas, already installing — gas service lines to customers in the Middlebury area as part of its Addison Natural Gas Project. That project features an extension of the natural gas pipeline from Colchester to Middlebury and Vergennes.
At the same time, the South Burlington company is looking for opportunities to serve some of the more densely populated neighborhoods near its new Middlebury infrastructure. In this case, it would potentially involve a combined total of approximately 50 customers along Orchard Lane, Pleasant View Terrace, Otter Creek Lane, and parts of Pulp Mill Bridge Road, Weybridge Road and Morgan Horse Farm Road in Weybridge, according to Vermont Gas spokeswoman Beth Parent.
“We are excited by the response we have received from folks in Weybridge who are eager to sign up for service and look forward to working with the selectboard and residents to answer any questions on Tuesday night,” Parent said.
The service line would be installed within the public right of way, according to Parent.
The May 17 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Common Room at Weybridge Elementary School.
