Area baseball teams come up short on the diamond
ADDISON COUNTY — The Otter Valley, Mount Abraham, Middlebury and Vergennes union high school baseball teams all dropped games on Tuesday.
OTTERS
The Otters came closest to a win, falling to host Bellows Falls, 3-2, in eight innings on a Terrier squeeze bunt. OV starting pitcher Tyler Allen tossed five hitless innings, walking four, and allowing two runs, one earned, and reliever Derek Aines allowed two hits and one unearned run in 3.1 innings.
OV (1-7) tied the game in the sixth, when Reilly Shannon and Aines reached on errors and Dan Allen singled them home.
EAGLES
Host North Country (6-3) rallied for a 6-5 victory over Mount Abe as reliever Ben Sykes came on to strike out 14 and allow the Falcons to get back in the game. The loss snapped the 2-7 Eagles’ two-game winning streak.
TIGERS
Visiting Mount Mansfield’s Hagan Harris took a no-hitter into the sixth in the Cougars’ 15-2 victory over the Tigers. Jordan Stearns doubled to end the bid, and Skyler Devlin took the loss as MUHS fell to 2-6.
COMMODORES
Visiting Champlain Valley (7-2) rolled to a 22-1, five-inning victory over the Commodores. Nate Rowell doubled and scored for VUHS (1-8).
