Bristol firefighters to burn North Street home on Saturday
BRISTOL — The Bristol Fire Department will conduct live fire training at a North Street location this coming Saturday, May 14.
The public should be away that firefighters will be training from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 93 North St.
There will be a temporary lane closure on North Street on Saturday to provide adequate space for the parking of fire apparatus assigned to this exercise. To safely maintain the flow of one-lane traffic on North Street the fire department will use the Bristol Highway Department’s portable stoplights. These portable units will be deployed near two intersections: North Street at Devino Lane and North Street at Crescent Street. Drivers can choose to either wait for a green light to travel north or south or detour around this section of North Street.
In order to provide training, fire departments burn structures such as commercial buildings and residential homes that are to be demolished. Situations where these structures are legally burned as part of a supervised fire training exercise are invaluable to fire department personnel. The burning of a structure must be used for instructional purposes, and will not be used for inexpensive demolition.
Bristol officials said this training, which is taking place in cooperation with the property owner, is in compliance with all local, state and federal requirements for acquired structures and with Environmental Protection Agency rules. This training is also in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association’s publication 1403, “Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions for Acquired Structures,” they said.
