BARRE — The Vergennes Union High School softball team came out on top of a seesaw game at Spaulding on Tuesday, 11-8 in eight innings.
The teams traded the lead in the early going before Spaulding scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go on top, 8-7. The Commodores tied the game in the seventh when Nikki Salley walked, stole second and scored on an error.
Vergennes then mounted the winning rally in the eighth. Sarah Rathbun led off with a walk, Jaymee Fulcher singled, and Felicia Armell walked, and all three came around to score on a walk to Megan Martin, a single by Tamara Aunchman and an error.
