Panther men’s golf wins league title at Ralph Myhre
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s golf team this past weekend on its home course won its eighth NESCAC title and fifth in six years, in the process earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III championship tournament. That event will take place from May 10 to 13 at the Midvale Country Club and Mendon Golf Club in Rochester, N.Y.
The Panthers built a three-stroke lead on a sunny Saturday and added four strokes to that advantage on a rainy Sunday to win by seven with a two-day total of 304-314-618, with Trinity in second at 625, which also shot a 314 on Sunday. Amherst (630) was third, and Hamilton (637) took fourth.
The championship event took place at the 6,315-yard, par 71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course on the campus of Middlebury College.
Middlebury’s Rodrigo Andrade took home medalist honors with a two-day total of 151, including a 77 on Sunday. Tying for second place were Joseph Ladd of Trinity (75-78) and Bayard Geeslin of Hamilton (78-75), who each finished with a 153.
Philippe Morin (75-80) and Fitz Bowen (77-78) of Middlebury tied for fourth place. Trinity’s Nate Choukas fired the best round on Sunday, turning in a two-over-par 73.
Rounding out Middlebury’s championship effort were Bennett Doherty (78-81), who tied for 10th with a 159, and Reid Buzby (81-79), who carded a 160 to tie for 12th place.
