Wins put MUHS girls’ lax at the top of the standings

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team took over first place in Division I with a pair of wins in the latter half of last week. At 5-0, the Tigers are the last unbeaten team in D-I, but have played four of five games at home and will face challenges from Essex, South Burlington and Mount Mansfield in their next three games.
On Wednesday, the Tigers edged visiting Champlain Valley, 6-4, as Emma Best scored three goals; Satchel McLaughlin, Emma Donahue and Andi Boe added a goal apiece; and goalie Raven Payne made 11 saves. Goalie Bailee Pudvar made 13 saves for the 2-2 Redhawks.
On Saturday, the Tigers topped Burlington, 12-5, as Best racked up four goals and an assist and Emma Donahue scored three times. Andi Boe added two goals and four assists and Isabel Rosenberg scored twice, and Payne again recorded 11 saves. Kaleigh Vachereau stopped 17 shots for the 1-3 Seahorses (1-3).
