Two-day art show will combine ordinary, extraordinary items
MIDDLEBURY — You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and there you have …a two-day show at Town Hall Theater in the Jackson Gallery. “The ArtiFacts of Life” is a mini-museum that showcases objects with compelling stories contributed by regular folks. It’s only up May 12-13 with a reception on Friday, May 13, from 5-7 p.m. This time, the focus is on serendipity: objects and stories about chance, coincidence and luck.
An African sword, a perfume bottle, a tattered Chinese lantern. What stories do these and other “regular” objects tell?
“I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while — get a bunch of community members to contribute to a show in our amazing gallery,” said Town Hall Theater Operations Manager Haley Rice. “I asked some of the THT staff to solicit one or two people to contribute a piece. We don’t know what most of them will be bringing, which is part of the excitement. Some of the staff have objects in the show as well. It’s going to be an interesting little show — at the intersection of storytelling and art exhibit.”
The Jackson Gallery is located in the lower level of Town Hall Theater, a community and cultural venue located in the center of Middlebury. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday noon to 5 p.m., and an hour before any public events in the building.
