Vergennes Police Log: City police handle car crashes and more

VERGENNES — In a mostly routine week between April 18 and 24, among other incidents Vergennes police calmed a couple of arguments, handled car accidents, and issued civil tickets for possession of small amounts of marijuana.
In those seven days, Vergennes police:
•  On April 18 went to a Second Street home because of a report of a fight and discovered a woman and two men arguing loudly; police calmed them down, and one of the men left.
•  On April 18 delivered news of a death of a family member to an employee at a city workplace.
•  On April 18 calmed an arguing couple on Green Street.
•  On April 19 checked a report of a fight at a Green Street residence, but were told the noise was children roughhousing.
•  On April 19 looked into a report of a man trespassing at a North Green Street property, but learned he was not there.
•  On April 20 ticketed a motorist for speeding and possession of marijuana and paraphernalia at a West Main Street traffic stop.
•  On April 20 helped a woman get into her locked car on School Street.
•  On April 20 dealt with a minor two-car accident on Comfort Hill.
•  On April 21 stopped a car for defective equipment at the intersection of Meigs Road and Route 22A and cited its operator for driving with a civilly suspended license and driving without insurance.
•  On April 21 helped Vermont State Police deal with a minor two-car accident at the intersection of Routes 7 and 22A.
•  On April 21 helped VSP by finding a city teen at his home and turning him over to their custody.
•  On April 21 dealt with a two-car accident on Main Street in which one car was totaled.
•  On April 21 searched unsuccessfully for two youths reported to be smoking marijuana in the city recreation area.
•  On April 22 ticketed a motorist parked at a Main Street business for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
•  On April 22 while working a special detail with Department of Motor Vehicles personnel, ticketed a truck driver for several offenses, including failing to display a company name or a Department of Transportation number and not possessing a medical card.
•  On April 22 looked into a complaint of a vehicle parked in a private parking spot at a Main Street apartment building, but it was gone when they arrived.
•  On April 22 accepted a pink tablet computer found on the side of the road; police still hope someone will claim the device.
•  On April 23 were told a delivered package had been stolen from outside of a Hillside Drive residence.
•  On April 23 contacted the owner of keys found in a bank night deposit box.
•  On April 23 were told by a South Maple Street resident that a wallet had been lost.
•  On April 24 dealt with a minor two-car accident on South Water Street.
