Foxhounds to be shown at New Haven farm this Sunday

NEW HAVEN — The 87th New England Hound Show will beheld Sunday, May 1, 10 a.m. at The Equestry horse farm in New Haven.
A dog show specifically for active foxhounds, the New England should bring together more than 50 foxhounds from seven packs and will include English, American, PennMaryDel and Crossbred hounds.
Green Mountain Hounds is the host for the event, with hunts participating from throughout the New England region, upstate New York and Canada.
Classes will be done in the typical dog show style, plus there will be special events, such as the Junior Showmanship Division, with entrants from 6-17 years of age, a horn blowing contest, and a retired hound class.
A “pack class,” where 10 hounds from each hunt will be handled off-leash by two people and put through a series of movements, should be a highlight of the day. This event shows the honesty and biddability of the pack.
The day will finish off with the running of the 84th New England Drag Pack Trails, a race for four hounds from each pack over a three-mile course.
Spectators are welcome. Bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it.
