Bridge School honors pupils

MIDDLEBURY — Bridge School announces the awards bestowed during its 36th annual Collar Day celebration.
Bridge School’s Collar Day derives from a 16th-century custom created by Queen Elizabeth I. She commanded her court to dress up and appear before her so that she could bestow upon them awards for unique accomplishments.
Bridge School students celebrate the day by wearing past Collar Day awards as well as family awards and medals. Parents and children are encouraged to make awards of excellence for each other. At a formal school ceremony, teachers present awards, relating to school experience, to each child. These awards can represent accomplishments, aspirations, effort and attitude.
