OV baseball falls to minutemen, 5-2

NORTH CLARENDON — Host Mill River defeated the Otter Valley Union High School baseball team on Monday, 4-1. The Minutemen won what was their opener, while the Otters dropped to 0-2 with their second road setback.
Mill River senior right-hander Caleb Whitney threw a complete game vs. the Otters, allowing only solo runs in the fourth and sixth.
In the fourth, OV’s Daniel Allen reached on an error, Colby McKay singled. Austin McCullough’s sacrifice fly scored Allen. Allen scored again in the sixth after he and McKay singled and Whitney balked Allen home.
MRU scored four runs off losing and starting pitcher Payson Williams, three in the third when Williams had trouble finding the strike zone. Patrick McKeighan threw the final three innings and allowed one more MRU tally.
