‘Hansel and Gretel’ make their way to Addison County

ROCHESTER — Bald Mountain Theater, based in Rochester, will embark on its first region-wide tour this spring, presenting an original adaptation of the folk classic “Hansel and Gretel.”
In Addison County, the show will run in Vergennes on Sunday, April 17, at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Vergennes Opera House; in Middlebury on Saturday, April 23, at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Middlebury Union High School auditorium; and in Bristol on Sunday, May 1, at 1 and 4 p.m. at Holley Hall.
This fast, funny, moving, and visually creative production will feature live music, and professional actors Ethan Bowen and Sebastian Ryder with newcomers Jillian Sherwin and Donovan Piccicuto. “Hansel and Gretel” integrates classic language and vivid imagery to create a performance for both children and parents to relish.
The Bald Mountain Theater troupe will perform in nine towns around Vermont on both sides of the Green Mountains, playing in large high school auditoriums, historic opera houses and small town halls.  “Our goal is to bring the touring theater troupe, so common in England and Europe, back to Vermont and New England,” said director and founder Ethan Bowen.
Future tours will include: “How to Cook Camel: Syrian Folklore” this fall; “Viking Tales” in spring 2017; and “Jane Eyre” in fall 2017.
“We will supplement these larger productions with touring solo performances of the great short stories in the summer and our popular circus/theater camp, which returns July 18-22 in Rochester and Aug. 1-5 in Bristol (sponsored by the Bristol Recreation Department),” Bowen added. “We aim to bring the magic of live theater to every corner of Vermont and beyond.”
Tickets for “Hansel and Gretel” may be purchased online at baldmountaintheater.org, or at the door. Prices are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 16. The play is suitable for engaged 6-year-olds and older.
