Panther track and field teams fare well out West

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Middlebury track and field teams on this past Saturday competed at in the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by U.C. San Diego. The Panther women finished sixth out of 12 teams with 56 points, while the men were tied for sixth of 11 with 61 points. The Panthers return to action this Saturday when they take part in a tri-meet with Plattsburgh State at host Springfield College.
In men’s competition this past Saturday, the Panthers recorded many top-five finishes. Kevin Serrao won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.20. In the same event, Sebastian Matt was fourth (3:55.16) and Sam Klockenkemper took fifth (3:56.41).
Jimmy Martinez took fifth in the 200 in 22.20, while Ascencion Aispuro was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:57.18). The 4×100-meter relay team finished third in 43.97.
In field events, Tyler Chaisson tossed the shot put 45’10.5” for a fourth-place finish. Deklan Robinson threw the javelin to a fifth-place distance of 169’3”, while Jared Whitman was fifth in the pole vault (14’5.25”).
On the women’s side, Abigail Nadler was second in the 5,000 (17:24.63). Lucy Lang was third in the 800 (2:09.93), as was Basia Osborne in 400 hurdles (1:06.43).
The 4×100-meter relay team was fourth in 52.40, while the 4×400-meter relay team was fifth in 4:01.77.
Carly Andersen tossed the javelin to a runner-up effort of 133’11”, while Julia Lothrop was fifth in the same event (118’2”).
