BRIDPORT — Investigators are still sorting out the cause of a fire this past Friday in Bridport that caused significant damage to a Route 22A home owned by Mark and Heidi Prime.
It was at around 5:30 p.m. on March 18 that Bridport firefighters were toned out to the fire, according to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Gordon. The fire originated in the attic of the two-story home and burned very hot, due in part to cedar shingles on the roof that held the heat inside the structure, according to Gordon.
Firefighters from Bridport, Addison and New Haven responded to the home and successfully kept the fire from spreading to the first floor. But Gordon believes the home is likely a complete loss, when factoring in water damage and the age of the structure. Thankfully, firefighters were able to haul a lot of the Primes’ personal possessions out of the abode to save them from damage.
Gordon estimates he and his colleagues engaged the fire for around three hours.
No people or animals were hurt in the incident.
Gordon credited the Bridport community — and in particular the Earl Audet family — for providing assistance to the Primes in their time of need. The Red Cross was also called to assist.
