Local youth speedskater ends season with medals
MIDDLEBURY — Lacey Greenamyre, a ninth-grader at Middlebury Union High School who skates with the Saratoga (N.Y.) Winter Club, recently finished another successful season of speedskating.
On Jan. 23 and 24 she placed second at the Jack Shea Long Track Sprints, which was staged on the outdoor Oval in Lake Placid, N.Y. The only competitor who beat Greenamyre that day in the Jr. C Ladies category was 2015 National Jr. Champion Sydney Yu.
At the Empire State Winter Games Short Track and Long Track Meets on Feb. 5-7 in Lake Placid, Greenamyre, the daughter of Ann and Jim Greenamyre of Middlebury, earned three bronze medals, three silver medals and two gold medals. Finally, Greenamyre earned a third place in the 500- and 1,000-meter races, and placed fourth in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter races at the Irving Jaffee Long Track Meet in Lake Placid on Feb. 27 and 28.
