Middlebury swimmer fares well at New England meet

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Middlebury Aquatic Club’s Thomas Denton competed successfully with other top-ranked 11- and 12-year-old boys this past weekend in New England Swimming’s 12-and-Under Age Group Championship Meet hosted by Upper Valley Aquatic Club.
This winter, Denton qualified to swim in 13 events at this meet. Swimmers are permitted to compete in a maximum of nine events at the regional meet, and Denton chose to swim in seven.  
He achieved fast enough times in each of the preliminaries to compete in the finals heats for all seven, posting personal bests in 13 of 14 swims.  
Denton’s final results among New England Swimming’s 11-year-old boys were as follows:
•  50-yard freestyle: 13th place, 27.90.
•  200 backstroke: 19th, 2:31.33.
•  50 breaststroke: 4th, 34.71.
•  100 breaststroke: 6th, 1:15.89.
•  200 breaststroke: 6th, 2:46.09.
•  100 individual medley: 6th, 1:08.56.
•  200 IM: 9th, 2:29.60.
