ADDISON COUNTY — Three Addison County public libraries have teamed up to bring illustrator, educator and author Marika McCoola to their Vermont communities on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12. Orwell Free Library, Platt Memorial Library in Shoreham, and Bixby Memorial Library in Vergennes will each host an event. McCoola, who is headquartered in the Boston area, most recently published the New York Times bestselling graphic novel “Baba Yaga’s Assistant.”
Friday night, March 11, Platt Memorial Library will host an author’s talk in Shoreham and will be giving away the door prize of a signed copy of “Baba Yaga’s Assistant.” Orwell Free Library will then host a graphic novel creation workshop in Orwell on the morning of March 12. Finally, Bixby Memorial Library will host a second graphic novel workshop on Saturday afternoon. Each event will be free and open to the public, and attendance is not limited to residents of the towns hosting the events. Registration is required for the workshops, because both will have limited space.
By working together, these Addison County libraries have been able to bring an author to Vermont to present programming that otherwise might have been cost-prohibitive to our small communities. The librarians say they are excited to be able to collaborate and network to expand excellent services to their patrons.
McCoola has degrees in illustration and writing for children. She teaches studio art, illustration and writing online, and leads educational workshops in a variety of settings.
