2016 Whiting Town Meeting Wrap Up
WHITING — Residents of Whiting decided only one race from the floor of their town meeting Tuesday evening.
Selectboard Chair Ellen Kurrelmeyer was nominated for town and school moderator, along with Elizabeth Curran. Kurrelmeyer won by a show of hands, 19-12, according to Town Clerk Gail Quenneville.
Curran was elected to a position as lister.
Also approved from the floor of the meeting was the selectboard’s proposed town budget of $365,202. That is a hike of about $65,000, or 22 percent, over the town budget that was approved as warned at last year’s town meeting. This year’s town budget will require raising $162,449 through taxes.
Residents weighed in on the Otter Valley Unified Union School District budget via Australian ballot on Tuesday; school budget ballots were commingled among the six towns in the district, which was created earlier this winter under the state’s Act 46 school governance consolidation law. The $22,604,806 OVUU spending plan passed by a tally of 1,920-846 by voters in Whiting, Brandon, Pittsford, Goshen, Leicester and Sudbury.
