2016 Shoreham Town Meeting Wrap Up

SHOREHAM — Shoreham residents on Town Meeting Day approved all the items on their warning, including the formation of a new unified Addison Central School District (ACSD) that will include all of the schools in the current Addison Central Supervisory Union.
Shoreham approved the governance merger by a 305 to 143 tally. All seven towns approved the merger (see related story, Page 1A), which calls for a single, 13-member ACSD board to govern all of the Middlebury-area schools under a single budget.
Nick Causton was unopposed in his run for Shoreham’s spot on the new ACSD board.
Residents also supported, by voice vote, the proposed 2016-2017 town highway budget of $681,890 and the general fund spending proposal of $287,479.
A proposed Shoreham Elementary School $1,567,125 spending plan for 2016-2017 earned approval by a 312 to 129 margin.
Residents also gave permission to school directors to use surplus funds to replace the school boilers and purchase a mobile computer lab.
Other requests on the warning that earned approval included:
•  $13,150 from the town’s general fund balance to put in a “reserve fund for fire/rescue vehicles and equipment.”
•  $20,000 from the town’s general fund balance to put into a “building and grounds repair reserve fund.”
•  $20,000 from the 2015 highway fund balance to put into the “highway equipment reserve fund.”
•  A combined total of $22,295 for various charities and nonprofit services that benefit Shoreham residents.
There were no contested elections on the Shoreham ballot this year. Elected unopposed were Will Stevens, town moderator, one year; Julie Ortuno, town clerk, one year; Kathleen Brisson, town treasurer, one year; Steven Goodrich, selectman, three years; Karen Shackett and Will Stevens, each for two years, on the Shoreham selectboard; Tanya Scuteri and Lance Wood, for terms of three years and two years, respectively, on the Shoreham School Board; and Laura Siebecker, library trustee, five years.
