PANTON — Panton residents decide on town spending and a selectboard member from the floor of town meeting on Tuesday morning at Panton Town Hall, and cast votes at the same site on school spending and Addison Northwest Supervisory Union Unification (see story on ANwSU merger, Page 1A).
Selectman HowardHall, who was appointed to the selectboard in 2015, was returned to office at the morning meeting.  
No one filed paperwork for Panton’s seat on the proposed 12-member Addison Northwest Unified District board. Panton’s selectboard will appoint the town’s representative.
Panton residents backed the selectboard’s proposed $643,423 spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year, and they also supported placing $59,000 into five capital funds, including $20,000 each into highway capital equipment and project funds and $15,000 into the Town Hall Restoration Fund.
In Australian balloting, Panton residents voted against, 141-85, the Vergennes Union High School’s proposed $10,026,000 budget for the 2016-2017 school year that represents a 2.23 percent cut from the current spending level.
They supported, 135-86, a separate $100,000 capital fund line item for VUHS. VUHS spending would still be reduced by about by about $134,000, or 1.3 percent, with that article passing.
Panton joined Vergennes and Waltham in supporting, 815-484, a $4.75 million Vergennes Union Elementary School budget that will increase VUES spending by 1.05 percent, or about $50,000.
Panton backed ANwSU unification, 181-46.
