Area wrestlers nab state titles
NORTH CLARENDON — Vergennes Union High School junior Brandon Cousino at 182 pounds and Middlebury senior Nick Beauchamp at 195 won titles on Saturday at the state championship meet at Mill River.
Cousino pinned Mount Anthony’s A.J Wright in his final, while Beauchamp edged MAU’s Sebastian Rocher, 3-0.
Tiger senior Nate Gebo lost the 120 final, but still earned the record for most career wins at MUHS. Also finishing second was VUHS senior Jeb Hodsden at 152.
Earning third-place finishes were Mount Abraham freshman Roman Mayer at 120, MUHS senior James Whitley at 145 and VUHS senior Ryan Paquin at 170.
Junior Tyson Cram at 138 and senior Nate Doty at 285 took fourths for Otter Valley.
MAU won the team title. MUHS was sixth; VUHS, seventh; OV, ninth; and Mount Abe, 13th.
