Women’s track and field is third in New England D-III
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College athletes set two school records and won five events as they hosted the Division III New England Women’s indoor track and field championship inside the Virtue Field House on this past Friday and Saturday.
With 31 teams scoring, the Panther women racked up 82 team points to finish behind MIT (123.50) and Williams (93.83). All-New England Division III honors were awarded to the top-eight placers in each event.
School record performances came from Abigail Nadler and Maddie Pronovost. Nadler set the record of 10:08.38 while finishing second in the 3,000-meter run, while Pronovost amassed 2,974 points during Friday’s pentathlon while taking sixth.
Alexandra Morris won the 400-meter dash (57.23), while Adrian Walsh claimed the 5,000-meter run by more than three seconds with a time of 17:35.15.
The Panther women raced to three relay wins. The 4×400-meter team of Jackie Kearney, Paige Fernandez, Lucy Lang and Morris crossed the line in 3:58.65, winning by nearly four seconds. The 4×800 relay of Claire Gomba, Isabella Alfaro, Robin Vincent and Lauren Bougioukas prevailed in 9:33.66, while the distance medley relay quartet of Alexis Jakubowski, Kate McCluskey, Nicole Schachman and Nadler won in 12:11.91.
Additional top-three efforts came from Lang in the 600-meter run (third, 1:36.72) and Bougioukas in the 800-meter run (third, 2:16.98).
