Seniors view new recreation center

MIDDLEBURY — Area seniors recently got an early glimpse of Middlebury’s new recreation facility on Creek Road, which will formally open its doors during a March 2 open house.
It was during the spring of 2014 that Middlebury voters approved construction of the new, 11,500-square-foot recreation center, which includes an addition with rooms for sports teams in which to change and shower. The facility also includes a multi-purpose room that will, among other things, house programs for local seniors who used to meet in the Russ Sholes center in the lower level of the Middlebury municipal building and gym at 94 Main St. That building will soon be demolished to make way for a new park, with new offices now taking shape at 77 Main St.

The March 2 open house will last from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will feature such offerings as a Zumba class, unicycling, “Tot Time Toys,” pickleball, tai chai, a Bone Builders presentation, swing dance and yoga demonstrations, and other sports activities. Healthy snacks and beverages will be offered.
