Opinion: Nuovo return to Middlebury selectboard supported

We write in enthusiastic support of Victor Nuovo’s candidacy for the selectboard. We were delighted when Victor decided to run again for the seat that he previously held from 2005 through 2013.
A Middlebury resident for over five decades, Victor has long ties not only to the town of Middlebury, but also to Middlebury College. He was instrumental in forging the town-college partnership through which we were able to build the new bridge across the Otter Creek, and more recently the new town offices now under construction. Victor’s skills and long experience as a negotiator will serve the town well, not only in relations with the college, but more broadly.
Victor is a deep thinker, who is able to see not only the immediate consequences of decisions or actions, but also to anticipate longer-term effects and possible unintended consequences. In an age when our attention is too often drawn by pressing demands of the moment, Victor’s ability to take a long view is immensely valuable.
We intend to vote for Victor Nuovo on Town Meeting Day, along with incumbents Nick Artim and Gary Baker, and urge others to do likewise. All three are highly experienced and levelheaded. Together with the continuing selectboard members, this trio will assure strong, consistent leadership for our town in the years ahead.
