MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a suspected road rage incident on Route 7 south on Feb. 12. The victim alleged that a vehicle cut him off, according to police. The victim confronted the driver, who allegedly slammed his car door against the victim’s hand, causing injury, police said. The case is still under investigation, according to authorities.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Ticketed a juvenile for being a minor in possession of tobacco on Middlebury Union High School property on Feb. 8.
• Were informed that someone had written graffiti on the lower façade of the Cross Street Bridge off Bakery Lane near Mister Up’s Restaurant on Feb. 8.
• Responded to Porter Hospital where a patient had allegedly threatened to hurt people if he did not get medicine on Feb. 9.
• Investigated a report of a man walking near the Middlebury Inn on Court Square with a paper bag over his head with cutouts in the face, while drinking a cup of coffee.
• Investigated a hit-and-run accident involving some vehicles in a Court Street Extension parking lot on Feb. 9.
• Assisted a driver whose vehicle had veered off Exchange Street on Feb. 10.
• Patrolled Mary Hogan Drive to flag vehicles that were either illegally parked or traveling the wrong way on the street on Feb. 10.
• Investigated a hit-and-run case involving two vehicles in the Washington Street area on Feb. 10.
• Were informed of the theft of money from a purse that had been left at a Court Street business on Feb. 10.
• Helped resolve a juvenile disturbance on Lower Foote Street on Feb. 11.
• Responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a South Pleasant Street home on Feb. 11. Misty Stowell, 38, Middlebury, was found deceased and her remains were taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy, according to police. Authorities at this time don’t suspect foul play in connection with Stowell’s death.
• Assisted Vermont State Police with a vehicle pursuit that ended on Kelly Cross Road on Feb. 12.
• Were informed about a drunken man who had allegedly been hanging out at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Feb. 12. Police located the man, who they said is enrolled in a local, residential treatment program.
• Responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Feb. 12.
• Took an intoxicated local man for detox services in Rutland on Feb. 12.
• Received a report about a man allegedly loitering in front of a Merchants Row business and intimidating customers on Feb. 12. Police said they could not find the man.
• Assisted a local resident who on Feb. 12 reported receiving several harassing phone calls during the past several months.
• Heard from a local woman who suspected her ex-boyfriend might have tampered with her car while she was working on Feb. 13.
• Ticketed six vehicles that had been illegally parked on Main Street on Feb. 13.
• Responded, with Middlebury Regional EMS officials, to an attempted suicide case in the Merchants Row area on Feb. 13. Police said the woman in question was taken to Porter Hospital.
• Responded to a dispute between a parent and child at a North Forty Lane residence on Feb. 13.
• Investigated a report of “five or six gunshots” heard in the Halpin Road and Painter Road areas on Feb. 14. Police said their check of the area found nothing suspicious.
• Responded to a report of an elderly man walking along Route 7 south amid sub-zero temperatures on Feb. 14. Police could not find anyone matching that description.
• Responded to fire and burglary alarms at Mary Hogan Elementary School on Feb. 14. Police said the alarms had been triggered by a burst water pipe inside the school.
