Wrestlers win titles at tourney
JERICHO — Vergennes Union High School senior Ryan Paquin at 170 pounds, undefeated Commodore junior Brandon Cousino at 182 and Mount Abraham freshman Roman Mayer at 120 won titles at Mount Mansfield’s Jason Lowell Memorial Tournament this past Saturday to highlight local wrestlers’ efforts at the tournament.
Earning second-place finishes were Eagle Kevin Pearsall at 170 pounds, Otter Valley’s Tyson Cram at 138 and Commodore Jeb Hodsden at 152.
Overall, Mount Abe took third place out of 10 teams, and six other Eagles placed in the top four:
• Donovan Lamore, third at 106.
• Dawson Lamore, third at 113.
• Ben Murray, fourth at 126.
• Christian Little, third at 132.
• Dylan Little, fourth at 160.
• Ryan Durfee, fourth at 220.
The Commodores were sixth, with Troy Provencher at 126 and Devon Coleman at 160 each winning matches, but not placing in the top four.
Otter 285-pounder Nate Doty took third, and also winning at least one match for OV were Jacob White at 126 and Josh Beayon at 270.
BRISTOL DUALS
The Eagles also swept dual meets from Middlebury and VUHS on Feb. 4, defeating MUHS, 42-27, and VUHS, 42-30. According to the Eagle coaches it might have been 20 years since Mount Abe defeated both their local foes in the same season.
In the Eagle-Tiger match-up, each team won three contested matches, but Mount Abe held a 3-2 edge in pins and a 4-1 edge in forfeits to earn the victory.

• At 120, Mayer, MAU, pinned Nate Gebo, MUHS, who moved up in weight from 113.
• At 126, Murray, MAU, pinned Justin Jackson, MUHS.
• At 132, Justin Davio, MUHS, pinned Christian Little, MAU.
• At 145, James Whitley, MUHS, defeated Josh Hardy, MAU.
• At 160, Dylan Little, MAU, pinned Kyle Desabrais, MUHS.
• At 220, Nick Beauchamp, MUHS, pinned Durfee, MAU.
In the Eagle-Commodore matchup, each team recorded three pins in six contested matchups, and the Eagles went 4-2 in forfeited weight classes.

• At 126, Murray, MAU, pinned Provencher, VUHS.
• At 132, Ethan Reardon, VUHS, pinned C. Little, MAU.
• At 145, Hardy, MAU, pinned Kyle Kingsley, VUHS.
• At 160, D. Little, MAU, pinned Coleman, VUHS.
• At 170, Paquin, VUHS, pinned Pearsall, MAU.
• At 220, Natalie Huestis, VUHS, pinned Hailey Trayah, VUHS.
