Opinion: ACSU unification would better support its students

With the Addison Central Supervisory Union district unification vote on Town Meeting Day, we are beinggiven a rare opportunity to come together to acknowledge that regardless of which town we live in, we all benefit when our community has strong schools.
While it is true that district unification brings each ACSU town some taxsavings for the next five years, the greatest benefit of a positive vote is our chance to assure that the elementary schools in our district have the resources they will need to provide a high-quality elementary education. The vote on Town Meeting Day is for consolidated governance of our schools, not for school consolidation. It is an idea whose time has come.
We take a collective community pride in the accomplishments of students atMiddlebury Union Middle School and Middlebury Union High School. From sports teams, to theater performances, to band concerts, to academic achievements, our community cheers for and supports our middle and high school students whether they come from Bridport, Cornwall, Middlebury, Salisbury, Shoreham, Ripton or Weybridge.
ACSU governanceunification will be our first step in extending this same level of shared community support to our elementary age children.
