Bristol health center to offer dental services
BRISTOL — Mountain Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, has announced the addition of dental services coming soon in early 2016. This broadens the types of available services offered not only to current Mountain Health Center patients, but also to the community.
Late in 2005, a small group of concerned members of the Five Town community gathered to discuss how to bring affordable dental care back to Bristol. At that time, the town had lost its only dentist and residents of the five towns had to travel outside the local area of Bristol to receive dental services. The vision and inspiration from these grassroots meetings led to the coalescing of the Five-Town Health Alliance and the creation of the Mountain Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center that opened its doors in 2012.
And this year, from the consistent dedication and perseverance of so many in the local and extended communities, from the spark that was lit over 10 years ago, Mountain Health Center anticipates offering dental services by April 1. The dental office will be located in the annex of the MHC Campus at 61 Pine St., adjacent to the Mountain Health Center.
As is true of all FQHC’s around the country, MHC is dedicated to bring not only affordable and quality primary health care, but also mental health care services, wellness programs and dental services to more members of the community, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay.
MHC officials say they are especially excited about being able to provide long awaited services to the children in the community.
Dr. James M. Faulkner has joined the team at Mountain Health Center with many years of experience including board certification in orthodontics and working with children in general dentistry.
With roots in the small town of Alfred, Maine, Faulkner attended Colby College and proceeded to Georgetown University to receive his doctorate of dental surgery. He completed his orthodontic specialty training at Boston University. He has served as president of the Maine Board of Dental Examiners for many years and is a member of the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments, the international board that assesses and reports the results of its examinations in dentistry and dental hygiene.
Faulkner recently moved to Charlotte with his wife, who is the school nurse at Monkton Central School, to be closer to their grandchildren.
Faulkner says he is very excited about giving back to the community after many years in private practice. His goal is to make a difference to the underserved and underinsured families of the community.
