Panther women’s hoop falls to Williams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Host Williams defeated the Middlebury College women’s basketball team on Sunday, 66-49, as the Ephs broke the game open in the third quarter.
Williams improved to 13-4, 3-3 in NESCAC play. The Panthers (10-6, 2-3 NESCAC) were set to host Castleton on Wednesday before entertaining league foe Hamilton at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
This past Sunday, the Ephs took a quick 10-0 lead, but the Panthers fought back to take a halftime advantage, 31-30. But Williams outscored them in the pivotal third period, 19-6, and led by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter before settling for the 17-point victory.
The Ephs shot 47.3 percent from the floor and held the Panthers to 32.7 shooting.
Sarah Kaufman led Middlebury with 14 points, Rachel Collins added 10 points, Catherine Harrison contributed eight points and 11 rebounds, and Alex Huffman added eight rebounds, five assists and four points.
For Williams, Ammani Fernandez led all scorers with 20 points.
