BRUNSWICK, Maine — Middlebury College men’s hockey split a pair of NESCAC games in Maine this past weekend and entered this week with a 5-7-4 mark that includes a 4-2-4 league record.
They are in fourth place in NESCAC heading into this weekend, when they will host league foes Connecticut on Friday at 7 p.m. and Tufts on Saturday at 4 p.m.
On this past Saturday, host Bowdoin (7-7-3, 5-5-3) scored a breakaway goal with 1:24 to go to snap a tie and come away with a 2-1 victory. The Panthers outshot their opponents 40-29 in the game.
Bowdoin went up 1-0 midway through the opening period on a Matt Sullivan goal. Brendan Conroy shot on Panther goaltender Stephen Klein at the right post. Klein made the save, but Sullivan put away the rebound from the doorstop.
Vincent Gisonti evened the game on a power-play deflection 10:40 into the second frame. Ronald Fishman shot through traffic from just outside the right faceoff circle, and Gisonti got a touch for his team-leading sixth of the season.
Panthers Paul Falvey and Mike Najjar were among the Panthers who had chances in the third period before the game-winner. Daniel McMullan started the game-winning play with a two-line feed to Conroy streaking down the middle. In the Middlebury zone, Conroy skated toward goal before dishing to Cody Todesco, who was alone going in on Panther goalie Stephen Klein and slipped one home for the game-winner.
Bowdoin goalie Peter Cronin stopped 39 of 40 shots, while Klein made 27 saves.
On Friday, the Panthers scored twice in the third period for a 4-2 win at Colby (5-8-4, 3-7-2). Middlebury netted the game-winning goal early in the period and sealed the win with an empty netter. 
The Panthers’ Ronald Fishman opened the scoring 6:49 into the game. Fishman had the puck behind the net, faked a pass to the front and lifted a backhand over Colby goalie Emerson Verrier’s left shoulder.
Middlebury pushed the margin to 2-0 early in the second period, when Brendan McGovern tallied at the 1:46 mark.
Colby bounced back later in the period to tie the game with two goals in a span of 3:53. The first of those came when Jonathan Sdao scored on a shorthanded breakaway at 10:06. The Mules’ Scott Fenwick later tied the game following a stretch of sustained Colby pressure.
Panther Andrew Neary notched his first career goal 5:26 into the third period by deflecting in a Fishman shot from the point.
Zach Haggerty scored into the empty net for a power-play goal with 47 seconds remaining.
Colby held a 32-29 advantage in shots on the goal, but Klein made 30 saves. Verrier had 25 saves for the Mules.
