Historical talk to focus on 18th century Vermont congressman

FERRISBURGH — University of Vermont historian Vince Feeney will give a presentation titled “Mad Matt the Democrat” on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m., at the Ferrisburgh Town Hall/Community Center.
Feeney offers this compelling portrait of indentured servant, Green Mountain Boy, son-in-law to Thomas Chittenden, land speculator and entrepreneur Matthew Lyon, one of the most colorful characters in Vermont’s early years. Perhaps best remembered for his imprisonment under the Alien and Sedition acts and his subsequent re-election to Congress while in jail, his life not only exemplified the promise of a new nation, but also reflected the political tensions of the times.
The presentation is free. All are welcome. For more information call Silas at 425-3380.
