DeLorenzo named D-III field hockey coach of the year

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College field hockey coach Katharine DeLorenzo capped off a memorable season by being named the NCAA Division III National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coach of the Year. The national honor is the second for the Panther head coach, who also earned the accolade after the 2003 season.
The 2015 season saw the 20-2 Panthers establish a single-season program record with their 20th win, which came in the national championship game. Middlebury also set a mark for the most team shutouts (10), including holding opponents scoreless during three of the Panthers’ four NCAA tournament wins on its way to the title.
DeLorenzo has led the Panthers to a 231-53 (.813) record in her tenure. Her Panther teams advanced to the NCAA championship game five times and made 13 straight trips to the NCAA tournament between 2003 and 2015, including guiding six of the program’s eight trips to the final four.
She earned New England Coach of the Year honors in 2003 and 2004, and led the Panthers to the 2003, 2012, 2013 and 2014 NESCAC titles.
DeLorenzo graduated in 1990 from Goucher College, where she was an All-American field hockey and lacrosse player, as well as a swimmer. She was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in the spring of 2013.
