Cardinals blank Middlebury men’s hockey
MIDDLEBURY — Plattsburgh, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III, blanked the Middlebury College men’s hockey team this past Saturday, 3-0. The 12-2-1 Cardinals took a 22-21-4 edge in the all-time series between the schools.
The 4-6-4 Panthers will look to snap what is now a five-game winless skid (0-4-1) during league games at Colby and Bowdoin this Friday and Saturday.
On this past Friday, neither team scored in a fast-paced, evenly played first period in which both squads put eight shots on goal.
Middlebury’s Zach Haggerty had a great chance to score at 6:45, but Cardinal goalie Brady Rouleau stopped his breakaway. The Cardinals thought they taken the lead with 1:41 remaining in the period, but an apparent goal from Pat Egan was waived off because the whistle had blown.
The Cardinals went on top 1-0 2:25 into the second period when Michael Radisa made a move to the goal from the high slot and bead Panther Stephen Klein (32 saves). Plattsburgh took a 2-0 lead with 29 seconds left in the period. Kyle Hall, behind the net on the right side, fed Radisa out front for a one-timer inside the left post.
The Cardinals added a power play goal from Brandon O’Quinn, assisted by Egan, at 8:19 of the third period.
Plattsburgh finished the game with a 35-24 shots advantage as Rouleau made 24 saves.
